Statistics

Walt : display data on histogram, tally chart
Walt : interpret information from histograms and tally marks eg. medium, mode, range, mean

I was able to put the name score information into a histogram and I used tally marks. This task took a bit of thinking but it was easy when I understood it in the end.

  • The range for the first name scores was 4 - 20
  • The range for the last name scores was 2 - 21
  • The range for the full name scores was 9 - 31
  • The mean for the first names was 10.34
  • The mean for the last names was 10.79
  • The mean for the full names was 21.13
  • The medium for the first names was 11.5
  • The medium for the last names was 9.5
  • The medium for the last names was 21
  • The mode for the first names was 14
  • The mode for the last names was 11
  • The mode for the full names was 22

Mean:
An other word for mean is average how you add it up is simple you
Get a set of numbers and then you add them up, Then you count how much numbers there are
and divide the total by how much numbers there are.

Medium:
This is only if your set of numbers are even: You get a set of numbers and put them in order to largest to smallest and you find the 2 in the middle and you add them up and divide it by 2. If its not even: you get a set of numbers and put them in order from biggest to smallest and then you just find the number in the middle and that's the total.

Mode:
I found the mode the easiest because you get a set of numbers for example 5,5,5,5,5,77,88,99 you see which ones the most popular in this case it was 5 so the mode is 5.

I found finding the, mean, medium and mode a little bit tricky because I was a bit confused about the medium and mean because I kept mixing them up but now I understand it better and I find it really easy now.

Click this link and watch the smart frog video on mean medium and mode
